I'm not sure why, but it seems that some of the best tutorials for Photoshop employ the kitschiest images of all time. So while you watch these and absorb the different tools and techniques for painting in Photoshop, also be assured that knowing how to emulate the "Lady and the Tiger" is not why you're here at City College :0)
So from among these rather involved tutorials for Photoshop, I've chosen two in particular for this week and next. They introduce us to tools which actually allow us to paint things from scratch, as opposed to what we've been doing so far, which has been mostly playing with found images or photographs we've shot.
